Training

Uni-Guard is at the forefront in the training of security skills and techniques, and is renowned for its excellence in the training of our officers to meet your specific security needs.

Officers participate in an extensive post employment training program before being assigned to their post. Uni-Guard's standards of performance and administrative procedures are an important element of this training. Officers are instructed in fire prevention and control; emergency responses; property patrol; reporting and communication; legal issues; and public relations.

Uni-Guard provides extensive on-site training of each guard in the particular site post orders, duties and responsibilities. We also feel it is important to provide ongoing training to enhance the growth and improvement of the guards. All training is documented and retained in Human Resources files and made available to our Clients.

Uni-Guard selected the International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) training programs as the foundation and framework for preparing new officers and enhancing skill of its entire workforce. International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) programs cover current security procedures and practices and Uniguard's adaptation is described as follows:

Entry Level Protection Officer (ELPO)

New personnel are required to complete the "Entry Level Protection Officer (ELPO) Program" along with the basic HR required orientation prior to being placed onsite. An eight-hour segment, this is a computer-based program that allows interaction on the part of the officer. It is designed to provide "solid, basic training for security professionals or anyone considering a career in the security industry."

Site Specific Training

Upon successful completion of the ELPO program, the officer will then be assigned a post where they will receive "on-the-job" training at the account. During the first thirty days the officer will be evaluated on their demonstrated ability to:

  • Comprehend basic security concepts.
  • Learn the specific requirements of the account.
  • Promote a safe and secure environment for all who visit.
  • Develop and use good public relations skills.

Continuing Professional Development

  • Basic Protection Officer (BPO)
Officers who have demonstrated competency and desire to continue with their education will be allowed to continue to the next level of training. This being the Basic Protection Officer (BPO) Program, which also is a web/CD-ROM based course. This is equivalent to a 40-hour course, more comprehensive than ELPO, and will assist the officer in the development of a broader knowledge base from which to draw while performing their duties. Unit and final examinations are a part of the program along with topic quizzes that measure understanding of security practices.

  • Certified Protection Officer (CPO)
After successful completion of this program the officer can continue on to becoming "Certified" as a protection officer. The CPO program is a self-study program using a training manual of twelve sections and 36 chapters. Uni-Guard management monitors progress and the final exam is proctored. IFPO scores the test and provides course certification. This program continues to expand the working knowledge of the officer and will prepare them for supervisory roles.

  • Security Supervisor Program
As an officer continues to grow towards supervisory positions, they can continue to develop by use of the Security Supervisor Program. This is a self-study manual with final examination and can lead to becoming certified as a security supervisor.

  • Supervisors Final Challenge
To obtain certification the officer must be in a supervisory role of six months and perform evaluations of ten (10) workplace scenarios requiring supervisory action. A panel at the IFPO determines if certification is to be awarded after evaluation of these responses to the scenarios.

  • Incentives

As an incentive to participate in the training programs, all individuals holding or wishing promotions and wage increases within the Uni-guard, will be required to achieve satisfactory completion of the courses that relate to their job descriptions.

Uni-Guard is working with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to tie this program into the Veterans' Education system. This will allow for the recruitment of active/retired veterans of the Armed Forces for a career in Security. This is an opportunity to earn additional funds at no cost to Company or Client, while actively working towards developing skills with IFPO programs.
